Armed Forces Week 2026 provides an opportunity to recognise the service, dedication and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community across the UK. At RSS Infrastructure, we are proud to celebrate Armed Forces Week and the significant contribution that veterans, Reservists and military families make to our business and the wider infrastructure sector.
What is Armed Forces Week?
Armed Forces Week is a national campaign that recognises the contribution of serving personnel, veterans, Reservists, cadet force adult volunteers and military families. Taking place each June, Armed Forces Week provides organisations, communities and employers with an opportunity to show support for those who serve or have served in the UK Armed Forces.
At RSS Infrastructure, Armed Forces Week is an important opportunity to highlight the positive impact that Armed Forces personnel have on the infrastructure industry and to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces community.
As part of Auctus Management Group, RSS Infrastructure supports the Armed Forces Covenant and contributes to the organisation’s Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award status. We actively support members of the Armed Forces community through employment opportunities, fundraising activities and ongoing engagement with Armed Forces organisations.
For many of our colleagues, support for the Armed Forces community is personal as well as professional.
Armed Forces Week and the Transition from Service to Leadership
Ryan Spence, Head of Managed Environments at RSS Infrastructure, is one of several colleagues who have transitioned from military service into successful careers within the infrastructure sector.
Reflecting on his experience, Ryan said:
“As Head of Managed Environments at RSS Infrastructure, I draw on many of the skills, values and disciplines I developed during my time in the Army. Leadership, clear decision-making, teamwork, support and encouragement are all essential to building successful teams and delivering successful projects.
I am proud to lead the Managed Environments team, and together we are making a real difference to the maintenance and improvement of infrastructure across the country.
It is important to recognise and support Armed Forces Week, but it is equally important to demonstrate that commitment throughout the other 51 weeks of the year. Our Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award reflects that long-term commitment and makes me proud to be part of an organisation that genuinely values the contribution of veterans, Reservists and the wider Armed Forces community.”
Ryan’s experience reflects the journey of many veterans who bring valuable leadership, operational and problem-solving skills into civilian employment. During Armed Forces Week, stories like Ryan’s highlight the positive contribution that veterans continue to make across the infrastructure sector.
Why Military Skills Transfer to the Infrastructure Sector
Infrastructure projects often require teams to work in complex and demanding environments where planning, communication and safety are critical.
Veterans are accustomed to operating within structured environments, adapting to changing circumstances and maintaining high professional standards.
The ability to assess risk, work collaboratively and remain focused under pressure contributes directly to successful project delivery.
These qualities are as relevant on infrastructure projects as they are in military environments. Veterans often transition into roles where discipline, teamwork and safety-focused thinking remain essential, making veterans a valuable asset to infrastructure organisations.
Leadership Skills Developed Through Military Service
Effective leadership is not limited to senior management positions.
Successful projects depend on individuals throughout an organisation taking responsibility, supporting colleagues and maintaining standards.
Military service often develops these qualities from an early stage, encouraging individuals to lead by example and contribute positively to team performance.
Across RSS Infrastructure, colleagues from Armed Forces backgrounds continue to demonstrate these attributes every day.
Supporting Veterans and Reservists During Armed Forces Week and Beyond
Creating opportunities for veterans is about recognising potential as much as experience.
By understanding the transferable skills developed through military service, employers can support successful transitions while strengthening their own workforce.
RSS Infrastructure also recognises the important contribution made by Reservists, who bring additional skills, leadership experience and professional development opportunities into civilian workplaces.
These commitments form part of the wider support demonstrated through the Armed Forces Covenant and Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award.
Armed Forces Week Is More Than a Week of Recognition
Armed Forces Week 2026 provides an important opportunity to recognise the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community, but meaningful support extends far beyond a single week of recognition.
Whether through employment opportunities, career development, fundraising initiatives or community engagement, RSS Infrastructure remains committed to supporting the Armed Forces community and creating opportunities for veterans, Reservists and military families leaving or connected to military service.
As a supporter of the Armed Forces Covenant and contributor to Auctus Management Group’s Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award status, we recognise the value that veterans and Reservists bring to our workforce. Armed Forces Week provides an opportunity to celebrate those contributions, but our commitment to veterans, Reservists and military families continues throughout the year.
The contribution made by veterans and Reservists continues to strengthen our business, our projects and the wider infrastructure sector.
