Project Delivery

Fenix Rail Systems and Volker Fitzpatrick were awarded the contract to build a new Metro Train Depot at Gosforth Park in Newcastle. Fenix Rail Systems is responsible for the signalling side of the development, and RSS Infrastructure is providing support to ensure the project’s successful delivery.

To begin, RSS Infrastructure provided a TIC to create Test Strategies and Test Plans for each stage of the project. This involved a comprehensive testing plan to ensure that the new equipment was functioning as intended.

RSS Infrastructure also supplied signalling teams to carry out modifications and install new equipment, including point machines, cables, location cabinets, signage, and cable modifications in the relay room.

This involved working closely with Fenix Rail Systems’ design and management team to ensure that any issues were addressed quickly and efficiently.

Once the new equipment was installed, RSS Infrastructure’s testing team tested and commissioned it, making modifications to the local operating panel to reflect any changes. This ensured that the new signalling system was functioning correctly and met the demands of the train operating company for the Newcastle Metro at the first stage of an ongoing project spanning several stages.

As the project development continues, RSS are assisting with the installation side working closely with Fenix and other contractors currently delivering the next stages. This project is expected to be ongoing for a further year approximately.
