My Apprenticeship Journey: Darren Saeed

Today we are speaking to Darren Saeed, who works as an Apprentice in Construction and Civils in RSS Infrastructure.

We’re catching up with our apprentices across the Group as part of National Apprenticeship Week to learn more about them, their progress, and their future goals.

Hello Darren Saeed, what were you doing before you started working at RSS Infrastructure?

Before I joined RSS Infrastructure, I was working in traffic management as a Traffic Marshall.

Have you ever worked in the rail/civils sectors before working at RSS Infrastructure?

I have never worked on the railway before, so everything is new to me.

What is your job role and responsibilities at RSS Infrastructure?

As apprentices we are involved in many different aspects of the projects in Construction and Civils. We assist on the installation of RRAPs (Road and Rail Access Points), we erect fencing – mainly post and wire, post and rail and Palisade fencing. We have also done gate installations and erected hoarding around a site. I have also helped on a coper stone project.

What are your future plans, and how will working at RSS Infrastructure help you achieve them?

I want to be able to run my own projects and be in charge of a team. I want to learn more about construction and improve my hands-on skills. My main goal right now is to build up my skills and get as much experience as I can. I think this would also help me learn about other parts of the business and get to know the whole company a lot better.

Thanks to Darren for taking some time to tell us about his apprenticeship journey so far.
