Project Overview

RSS Infrastructure Limited (RSS), were tasked by ABC Electrification Limited to replace traditional rail sleepers, installed by the client, with those specifically designed for cable management. The initial plan was changed as the client deemed it more efficient to feed the cables through a ‘cable run’.

As part of this transport development programme, the teams at the MMA needed to clear a path for the ‘Tracked Borehole’ drilling equipment and personnel to enable them to safely begin conducting an inspection of ground stability, in preparation for the installation of the tram infrastructure.

Solution

To ensure that the client was able to meet the project deadline and budgetary requirements for the upgrade of the electrification in Walsall, the RSS Civils/Construction teams conducted an extensive assessment on site, working alongside the client to determine exactly what competencies and machinery would be required.

The RSS teams included experienced Trackmen who held all the required Small Tools tickets, Ganger, Crane Controller, COSS, ALO as well as an RRV.

Each team member had been briefed on the urgency of the project and due to their extensive training and experience were able to complete the works to an exceptionally high standard along with all the required paperwork within the 4-day deadline.

Conclusion/Results

What benefit was this for the client?
Throughout the installation of the cable management sleepers, RSS Infrastructure personnel interfaced directly with the client and ensured that they were informed through progress reports that helped to resolve any issues before they arose, meaning that the project could be delivered on time and to budget.
